 Description
[Machine Translation] polly's latest work, "FLOWERS," produced by Yusuke Kobayashi of THE NOVEMBERS, is a high-resolution, aggressive and loose work with the theme of Japanese-made 4AD. The theme of this album is Japanese 4AD. The members of the group listen to the British label 4AD on a regular basis, and the aesthetic and ethereal sounds and textures of the 90's were taken into consideration in the production of this album. As a way of approaching the theme of Japanese 4AD, the composition and the sound image of the album was based on the theme of "pure 4AD", which can be formed even if only the melody is cut out. Furthermore, a producer was appointed for the first time this time: Yusuke Kobayashi, frontman of THE NOVEMBERS, who used to belong to DAIZAWA RECORDS and is also musically respected by the band, was invited as a sound producer, and the chord progression and song structure that would highlight the melody that polly originally possessed were carefully discussed and produced. The songwriting, chord lines, and melody of the song were discussed in detail and produced to highlight the melodic qualities of polly's original melodies. In addition to sound production, M5 "Same Flowers Gazing" and M7 "Far Away" were co-written with Kobayashi. The lyrics of M5 "Gazing at the Same Flower" and M6 "Plastic" were also co-written by Koshiyun, who wrote down his daily thoughts in bullet points and added Kobayashi's worldview to them. Kobayashi's worldview was added to the bullet points and became the lyrics. In addition to the dream-pop shoegaze sound of the past, M5 "Gazing at the Same Flowers" incorporates dubstep, while M6 "Plastic" is a chillwave electro track that for the first time uses hammering instead of live drums. The arrangement was done in an attempt to create a "Depeche Mode" or "Washout" type of dance music. The biggest change in this album is the growth of Ryoma Koshigumo as a vocalist. M2 "Crying Like I Want to Cry" features a falsetto and swaying rhythm reminiscent of "Fishmans" and "Cocteau Twins," and M7 "Far Away" has a nostalgic song and scale like Yumi Matsutoya's "Far Away. The title of the song, "Flowers," is a reference to the song's title. Ryoma Koshigumo commented on the origin of the title "Flowers" as follows. Flowers are given to people when they are happy, or offered at funerals and other occasions of farewell, and are always attached to the beginning or the end of a person's life.
