The band has since performed not only cover songs but also original songs with Japanese lyrics, and has gained support from a wide range of fans as a unique band that plays a Showa-style sound that incorporates jazz, jump, jive, blues, boogie-woogie, rock and roll, and even Japanese-style songs. In July 2000, the band performed at the Kansas City Blues & Jazz Festival in Missouri, USA. He was made an honorary citizen of Kansas City, Missouri in July 2000. Taku Shimoda (Leader) was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1963. He has been a vocalist and trumpet player in the Kansas City Band, and has written lyrics, composed music, and arranged music as a support member of Bang Bang Bazar since 1999. In 2011, he arranged the music for singer Naoko Manana's single "Little Bar" and provided the arrangement for the coupling song "Ai no Shaka", and performed with the Kansas City Band to showcase the sound of Showa-era songs (scheduled for release by Victor on May 25).
