¡Don't Be At A Loss
¡Makoto Deguchi Trio
Description
[Machine Translation] Pianist Makoto Deguchi has recently completed a new album of original compositions. This time, the program consisted mainly of original compositions. It is not unusual for a pianist to record his own original compositions, but in Makoto Deguchi's case, after having received extensive training in classical music, he was attracted to the piano of Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly while he was a student at Osaka College of Music. The result is a collection of jazz piano pieces that is a testament to his dedication to his studies. In the years since his last album, his live piano playing has become one or two times more musical, expressing his mastery of the instrument and drawing the listener into his musical world. In 2005, he appeared on the NHK TV program "The Labyrinth Museum," with the theme "Symphony of Masterpieces and Paintings," collaborating with improvisation and painting, and performing his original piece "I Will Not Change My Way," which earned him high praise for his compositional talent. His compositional talent was highly acclaimed. He also composed a piano piece ("Heki Ki Yamakawa" and others) for the drama "Chuoryusa (starring Yoka Wao)," which was aired on TBS TV in December 2009 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Seicho Matsumoto's birth. He often performs these songs live, and the melodies are so familiar that they would be well received by singers if they were sung with poetry. In 2007, he participated in the Japan tour of Annie Selick, a vocalist who has been praised as the second Anita O'Day, to great acclaim. She also served as the first music director for the CD "I Thought About You" (Izumi Motoyama). Recently, he has been the bandmaster of a duo unit with veteran singer and actress Yukiji Asaoka and producer Daizo Koshiba, who is also a talented singer. For this album, he chose two of the most trusted and talented bassists and drummers, Daiki Ankagawa (bass) and Akira Igawa (drums), to play with him in his trio. This album contains 7 of Deguchi's original songs out of the 10 songs on the album.
