 Description
[Machine Translation] A moving story based on the true story of the in Toyohashi City! On August 7, 1945, about 3,000 people died in a 25-minute bombing at the Toyokawa Naval Arsenal. It was a tragic event in which many young boys and girls who worked at the arsenal in place of their fathers and brothers who had gone to war lost their lives, but because the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima the day before, it was hardly reported in the media. This film is a moving true story based on this historical fact. The film depicts the tragedy of war and the preciousness of human life by interweaving the "summer of the bombing" with the present day, featuring a woman who spent her girlhood in this town. The main character, Minako, emigrates overseas to become a pinhole camera operator, but returns to her hometown after being declared blind. Ruriko Asaoka, one of Japan's most famous actresses whose works include "The Mathematical Formula That Dr. Wagner Loved," gives an impassioned performance as the present-day Minako. Her childhood is played by Natsuki Kasa, the famous child actress of "The Life of Matsuko Ajiaware Matsuko". Other co-stars include Takahiro Hojo (Riding the Subway) and Mio Kato (Love Con). Also of note is that Grammy Award-winning world-renowned musician Kitaro, who is from Toyohashi City where the story takes place and also wrote the theme song for the film, makes his acting debut as a pyrotechnician! The original story was written by popular author Osamu Soda, who spent his boyhood in Toyohashi, where the drama is set. Based on his novels "Ee-jana-nai 17-sai no Challenge," "Haya-saki no Hana: Kodomotachi no Senmu," and "Kumo no Gai: Chugakusei no Taiheiyo Senso," which he wrote to keep the sadness of the air raid in his hometown Toyohashi alive, Hiroshi Sugawara, director of "Our Seven Day War" wrote the script himself for this film adaptation. In 1943, Shinji and his younger sister, Minako Uematsu, are transferred from Tokyo to a national school by the sea in Aichi Prefecture. They become good friends with the local children as they run around in the great outdoors, searching for treasure on a deserted island, stealing watermelons under the blazing sun, and dueling with other children. However, Shinji and his friends are soon caught up in the vortex of war, and at the age of 13, they are mobilized to work at the Toyokawa Arsenal. One day, the arsenal is bombed. Based on historical facts, this is a moving story about children under fire.
