Description
[Machine Translation] Fujiwara Michiyama, a brilliant pioneer in the new world of shakuhachi, and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's young concertmaster, Volkhard Steide, have been performing together since 2008, when the quartet visited Japan and hit it off. The recording was realized by Michiyama, who flew to Vienna to bring the relationship they had cultivated through repeated collaborations to fruition in a single work. The concept of this album was to "pick up and record the best of both Japan and Europe, old and modern". The arrangements were done by Michihiru Oshima. The music of the East and the West, born from completely different musical values and theories, are combined in a single album. By bringing them together in a single album and weaving their sounds together in a new encounter between a Japanese instrument (shakuhachi) and a string quartet, the differences between the two, or the mental commonalities hidden within them, are revealed in a very interesting way. For this album, Fujiwara Dozan and Oshima Michiru have written and contributed two original pieces for shakuhachi and string quartet respectively.
