¡Space 1.8
¡Nala Sinephro
Description
[Machine Translation] London-based Caribbean-Belgian composer, protege and musician Nala Sinefro has released her long-awaited debut album "Space 1.8" on CD on the prestigious WARP label. The album was released digitally/streaming in September 2021 and in very limited quantities on analog vinyl, and has been praised by all major music media, including Pitchfork as "Best New Music" and quickly became hard to find. The 22-year-old Cinefro herself wrote, produced, performed, engineered, recorded, and mixed the album, playing pedal harp as well as modular synthesizers. Among her friends she collaborated with on the album are saxophonist Nubaiya Garcia, James Morrison, another saxophonist who plays in the Ezra Collective, guitarist Shirley Tete and drummer Jake Long from Maisha, of which Nubaiya Garcia is also a member, and Sons of Kemet drummer Eddie Hick and other leaders of the contemporary UK jazz scene are also featured on the album. The "spaces" infused into each song, as the song titles suggest, were recorded in a room filled with warm light. During the making of the album, she conjured up the vibrant colors to bring out the different frequencies of each color. It is a world of synaesthesia (i.e., feeling a certain color with a certain sound) that provides a space for the listener to escape and immerse themselves in. Each piece was recorded after the first take, after eating something, chatting, or meditating. The domestic CD will include a commentary by Mitsutaka Yanagura ( Jazz The New Chapter ). This product will be on sale on Friday, so you will receive it on or after the day of release.
