Description
Critically acclaimed composer Joe Hisaishi is widely known through film scores he did for most of Hayao Miyazaki and Takeshi Kitano movies. With theatrical feature "Quartet," he made his directorial debut. The movie - which follows a group of four young people who form a classical string quartet - is based on an original story reflecting his own experiences as a young aspiring musician. Their friendship, love, despair and new start are told through 40 all-new pieces Hisaishi composed for this film. Some of his classic, well known soundtrack scores (to films like "My Neighbor Totoro," "Hana-bi," and "Kids Return") are also used effectively. The four protagonists are played with equal brilliance by Yoshihiko Hakamada, Sachiko Sakurai, Nao Omori, and Kaoru Kukita. The film's international premiere happened at Montreal World Film Festival. Also available on VHS.
