Description
[Machine Translation] Master director Roland Emmerich tackles the greatest mystery in the history of literature, "Shakespeare's Alias," a story of love and intrigue in the Elizabethan era. The story of a tragic man whose fate was tossed about by a strange fate is now revealed. --In the late Elizabethan era. Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, was unable to publish plays under his own name because of his status as an earl. So he asks a playwright named Ben Jonson to substitute for him, but while Jonson is puzzled, William Shakespeare, an actor in his troupe, publishes his play. At the same time, political intrigue swirls at court over the succession to the throne after Elizabeth I. The man most likely to become the next King of England was James I of Scotland, and Elizabeth's aide William Cecil was plotting to make him king. Meanwhile, the Earl of Southampton, Edward's patron, was seeking Edward's support to succeed the Earl of Essex, who was rumored to be Elizabeth's illegitimate son. Edward has his "Henry V" and "Richard III" staged as propaganda plays under Shakespeare's name to incite the people to hate Cecil's misrule.
