Description
Winner of the WICA2021 Best Actor Award in the Foreign Film Competition (Hidekazu Akai and Yudai Uenichi) and the Nice International Film Festival 2020 Best Foreign Film Award and Best Screenplay Award. Directed by Yudai Uenishi. Plot: Set in Shinsekai, Osaka. Murakami (a.k.a. Katsuyoshi), a former gangster who used to go around destroying yakuza gangs, runs his own boxing gym, but when one of his trainees is arrested for dealing methamphetamine at the gym, he closes it. He then starts working at a kushikatsu restaurant run by his childhood friend Genzo Sawamura, who runs a rehabilitation project for ex-offenders. One day, Katsuyoshi is invited to visit a prison, where he is reunited with Yuji Kamiki (a.k.a. Korogi), with whom he once went around crushing yakuza gangs. Korogi was in prison for possession of methamphetamine after falling for a bad girl, but he is soon released with Sawamura's help and starts working with Katsuyoshi at the kushikatsu restaurant. One day, Katsuyoshi is caught by a religious group from which a young boy, Takeshi Tokunaga, has escaped, and he saves Takeshi, but he has been brainwashed and is unable to speak due to the shock of his mother joining the religious group and being forced to leave his father. Kurogi, who is dyslexic and cannot read, is frustrated because he cannot read what Takeshi writes when he tries to communicate with him in writing. Kotone (Yami Arimori), the daughter of Katsuyoshi's former teacher, who taught Katsuyoshi boxing and the phrase "Never giveup" (nebagiba), has also joined the religious group. In order to save Takeshi and his mentor's daughter, Katsuyoshi, a man of humanity who never asks for anything in return, and Korogi team up again.
