¡Mozart: Lucio Silla
¡Opera
Description
[Machine Translation] When Mozart composed this opera seria in Milan in December 1772, he was less than 17 years old. Yet this work already contains many of the elements that would become the forerunners of many great operas to come. This work can be called an "opera seria," developed from the framework of the Baroque period into a classical work. It shows that Mozart had already mastered the art of leaping freely from the traditional operatic categories of the past and deconstructing them in his own medicine cabinet. The role of Lucio Silla is played by tenor Kurt Strait, a highly acclaimed Mozart singer, and soprano Patricia Petitbon has performed the role of Junia on many occasions. Cecilio is passionately sung by mezzo-soprano Silvia Toro Santa Fe. Stage director Klaus Guth has skillfully blended the classical setting with new challenges to create an interesting stage, and master opera singer Ivor Bolton brings the entire opera to life.
