To coincide with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra's tour of Japan in October (Brahms Cycle), the complete Brahms cycle, known as the "phantom disc" among his devoted fans, is being re-released in two volumes. These were originally released on the Koch label in a 4-CD set to commemorate Stein's 70th birthday (1998). The original recordings were provided by the orchestra and are now being released.
