Description
DVD release of the samurai film "Ichimei (Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai)" directed by Takashi Miike of "13 Assassins." Music is composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto. Plot: Set during the 17th century after the age of provincial wars. Lots of samurai lose their works and houses, and mock suicide is prevalent among them to get work or money from successes. One day, a samurai Hanshiro (Ebizo Ichikawa) enters the House of Ii, and requests to commit seppuku (suicide by disembowelment) in their courtyard. A chief retainer of Ii family, Kageyu Saito (Koji Yakusho) believes Hanshiro is bluffing and tells the tale of a young samurai (Eita) who last came there and asked for the same thing. To dissuade others from extorting handouts from their group, they called his bluff and forced him to commit seppuku with takemitsu (a dull bamboo sword) he carried. After Kageyu's awful story, Hanshiro tells them a surprising truth. . . Comes with a bonus DVD with making-of documentary. *You will need 3D compatible devices in order to watch this in 3D.
