Description
DVD release of the film "Departures (Okuribito)," the winner of the grand prix at the 32nd Montreal World Film Festival and 81st Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Directed by Yojiro Takita. Stars Masahiro Motoki and Ryoko Hirosue. The main character Daigo, who used to be a chellist but is now despondent, applies to a job he spotted in the classified, allured by the description that the job is to help people with their departures, thinking that the job is probably related to traveling. He soon finds out that he misunderstood the description when Sakai, the head of the firm, tells him that his job is to ready the bodies of the deceased for funeral. At first, he is not proud of what he does and he could not bring himself to tell his wife what he actually does. However, as he helps lots of people with their "departures," his mind slowly comes to change. . .
