Description
A delightfully zany animated feature from Dreamworks. Like Disney's "The Emperor's New Groove," the tone of the film is entirely farcical, and like that film, it's also set in Latin America in pre-conquistador times (pre-Latin America?). The production designs are superb and 2D and 3D animations combined with colorful backgrounds successfully create eye candy. Like the title suggests, the film evokes the old Bob Hope and Bing Crosby "Road to" comedies, and here the heroes are Tulio (voice of Kevin Kline) and Miguel (Kenneth Branagh), a pair of bumbling spaniards who happened to get their hands on a map to a hidden kingdom in Central America and get there slightly before Hernan Cortes, el conquistador. The rest of the vocal cast includes Armand Assante as the evil High Priest, Edward James Olmos as the kindly Chief, and the ever lovely Rosie Perez as the heroine, Chel. Also available on VHS.
