[Machine Translation] Harrison Ford vs. Liam Neeson! Tension around the world! The horrifying truth about the Cold War between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. The world will end in an instant...? Blu-ray version: 2 types of Japanese dubbing. --In the midst of the Cold War in the 1960s, the Soviet Union had nuclear weapons that could destroy the world twice, and the U.S. had nuclear weapons that could destroy the world ten times. At 16:00 on June 18, 1961, the Soviet leadership launches the new nuclear missile submarine "K-19" against the United States. Mikhail Polenin ( Liam Neeson ), an experienced man, trusted and respected by his subordinates, is removed as XO. In his place, Alexei Vostrikov (Harrison Ford), a man of iron will and a sense of duty, is appointed as the new captain for the maiden voyage. Vostrikov imposes a series of severe tasks and drills on the ship and its crew to measure their limits. Polenin, who wants his men to be safe, and Vostrikov, who swears allegiance to the motherland, even to the harshest of hardships, are bitterly opposed. Meanwhile, on July 4, 1961, K-19, on a reconnaissance mission, is struck by a catastrophe that threatens to engulf the entire world. The reactor is cracked, cooling water is leaking, and if nothing is done, a meltdown and explosion will occur. And the ship is right in front of a NATO base. The men make a decision that could trigger World War III, and with the fate of the entire world in their hands.... The soft version of the film (first broadcast on May 22, 2005 on TV Asahi's "Sunday Night Movie Theater") is included in this edition (with two types of Japanese dubbing). The TV Tokyo version ("Thursday Night Movie Theater" first broadcast on August 17, 2006) is included only in the Blu-ray version. (The dubbed voice of the TV Tokyo version is the original voice and Japanese subtitles for the parts that are not included. )
