¡Ludwig van Beethoven: The Complete Piano Sonatas
¡Paul Badura-Skoda
Description
[Machine Translation] A reissue project that Badura-Skoda himself, who sadly passed away in September 2019, looked forward to before his death, resulting in a memorial release: the complete Beethoven piano sonatas, released on the Astree label in 1978 and throughout the 1980s. Unlike the complete works recorded in 1969-70 using a Bosendorfer, this recording features seven different types of fortepianos from Beethoven's era. With the exception of Anton Walter's Hammerklavier, the instruments used are all from Badura-Skoda's own collection (at the time), and are very valuable in that they are not restored instruments but originals. This album was highly praised by the late Tetsuo Nagaoka for its dynamic recording of the action sound unique to the original instruments, neat and lively tone with many overtones, and energetic expression, while moderately filtering out the echoes of the historical building used for the recording at the end of the 19th century. There is a very slight sound missing from the master tape in the right channel of DISC 9, track 4 (Sonata No. 32, 1st movement) at 6 minutes and 3 seconds, but the label and Mr. Badura-Skoda's family have confirmed that this is an original release. Please note that this has been confirmed by the label and Mr. Badura-Skoda's family.
