 Description
[Machine Translation] Hendrik Andriessen ( 1892-1981 ) was a Dutch composer and organist. He studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory and became organist at Utrecht Cathedral, where he gained popularity for his dazzling improvisations. Known as a composer and educator, he left behind eight masses, four symphonies, chamber music, and songs in a wide range of genres. This fourth collection includes his masterpiece "Symphony No. 4" and three smaller works. The fourth collection includes three small pieces centered around his masterpiece "Symphony No. 4," a grand work that is the culmination of Andriessen's compositional techniques, which always emphasized melody without using the twelve-tone technique. The rhapsody "Libertas Venit" was written in 1941 during World War II, but it is a joyful and brilliant work that seems to dispel the dark mood of the war. It is performed by the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra with David Porcelain (conductor).
