 Description
[Machine Translation] Johann Schelle was a composer of the German Baroque period. He studied with Schutz in the Dresden Boys' Choir and, on his recommendation, sang in the church in Wolfenbuttel, and from 1677 to 1701 was cantor of St. Thomas' Church in Leipzig. He taught many musicians and left nearly 200 works, of which only 48 are known today, and only one, Christus ist des Gesetzes Ende, was published during his lifetime. Despite his important career, little is known about his works. In this album, we hear a joyful cantata for Christmas with a well-known biblical text. Performed by Willens, who specializes in works from this period, and some of Germany's leading singers. [Performed by Monika Mauch (soprano) / Miriam Albouz (alto) / Marian Dickieson (mezzo-soprano) / Georg Poplutz (tenor) / Jakob Pilgram (tenor) / Raimond Sporgis (bass-baritone) / Michael Alexander Willens ( Conductor ) / Concerto Palatino / Cologne Academy
