¡Sebastiani: Matthaus-Passion
¡Classical V.A.
Description
[Machine Translation] Johann Sebastiani was a German Baroque composer. The best known of his works is the "Matthew Passion," which seems to have been written before 1663, but was performed again in 1672 to great acclaim. He was one of the first composers of the "Oratorio Passion" (a style in which instrumental music is introduced into the previously unaccompanied Passion and the music is composed in the Italian style of recitative and concertato) and is also known for his inclusion of a magnificent chorus. In a superb performance by the Boston Festival of Ancient Music Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Paul O'Dette and Stephen Stubbs.
